Tractor Course Review
By Mateo Gil
Last week, I went on an excursion to the Listowel Cattle Market. Before going, I was really excited because I had never visited a real livestock market before. I expected to see many animals, learn more about farm life, and maybe even try something new.
During the trip, we attended two very interesting workshops. The first one was a farm safety course, where we learned about how to prevent accidents and stay safe while working around animals and machinery. The second workshop was about how to drive a tractor. I even got the chance to sit inside a tractor and see how all the controls work, which was one of the highlights of the day for me.
From this excursion, I learned a lot about the importance of safety on farms and how much skill it takes to handle farm equipment properly. It gave me a new appreciation for farmers and the hard work they do every day.
I would definitely recommend this trip to others because it was both educational and fun. It was a great opportunity to experience something practical and different from the classroom.
In the future, I would love to go on more excursions related to agriculture or nature—perhaps a visit to a dairy farm, a greenhouse, or even a renewable energy farm to learn about sustainable practices.
Tractor Course Review

I’m Lucas and I’m a TY Spanish exchange student.
Last Tuesday 14th October we went to Tanavalla to take a safety and First Aid course.
Before doing the course I expected some lessons about safety while working in a farm and then driving lessons.
Once we got there we split the group in two. One group stayed inside doing safety class and the other group went to drive the tractor. The safety course was basically showing the dangers of working in a farm without proper knowledge of what you are working with. It covered different areas such as livestock, machinery, pesticides, slurry, etc. It teached us how to avoid accidents while working in a farm and how to act if any accident took place. Once we finished the first part of the safety course we switched places with the other group and went outside with the tractor. They didn’t teach us much, we got in the tractor one by one and the man told us what to do. When we all had done it twice, we went back inside to switch again and continue with the course. This time it was more focused in First Aid, showing us how to do CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver and what to do when different accidents took place. When we finished the last lesson we went back outside and drove the tractor around again.
Thanks to this course I learned valuable skills and knowledge such as farm safety, First Aid, driving, etc.
I would totally recommend this experience to future TY students because it is both fun and interesting. It is a really enjoyable and different day out which was really fun.
I’d like to do more driving courses in the future.
